The binding constraint

It is not the machines. It is the single-source supplier: 120 days of lead time, and stock covers about 10 days of production. In between, the line stands still.

Assumptions
  • Machine capacity = nominal per shift × shifts × working days × (1 − scrap).
  • Component capacity = stock + supply rate × useful days after the first delivery, within the 90.
  • One critical component: if you have more than one, the worst one counts. No added shift, no hiring, no second source within 90 days.
  • A surface-level estimate, built to tell you which number to ask for first. The real number comes from the supplier sheet and the production log.
